The many dahlia hybrids on the market offer flowers in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours. Flowers appear from midsummer until early winter. Dahlias grow from tuberous roots, with growth occurring in summer. Plant them in late spring, in compost-enriched beds. Tall varieties need staking. In areas with severe frost, lift tubers early in winter and store in a cool, dry place. Dahlias make excellent cut flowers.
