truncata and Haworthia truncata var. maughanii come from South Africa's succulent-rich Little Karoo region, near the towns of Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn. Of the two varieties, var. maughanii is much less common, being found only in a limited area to the south of Calitzdorp.
