The White Hanepoot Grape – botanical name, Vitis vinifera cultivar “WHITE HANEPOOT” – produces large round berries with green skin and clear flesh. The grape turns yellow when ripe and is seeded, and the skin is soft and has a sweet, strong flavour when fully ripe.
The fruit ripens from February to March (depending on weather conditions) and the tree has a height and spread of about 3m by 3m. It is a climbing plant and the growth and shape depends mainly on pruning practices.
This is a multipurpose variety that can be used for juicing, table, drying or winemaking. It performs reasonably well in Summer rainfall areas and is one of the oldest cultivars that originates from North Africa.
Regular judicious pruning, before Spring is needed for the best yield. Reduce watering during the ripening stage.
